Encountering An Unfriendly Dog
By Rob Cook
Man's best friend. Usually. But sometimes an unfriendly dog may threaten someone on the street. Now if you are trespassing on someone else's property and you chose to ignore the "Beware of Dog" sign, that is your own fault. However, if you are minding your own business and an aggressive dog crosses your path, that is a different story.
Dogs are complex animals and share many of the same feelings and emotions as humans. Just ask any dog lover or a family that considers the dog as a true family member. Many times you can read a dog's mannerisms as decide if the dog approaching you is attacking or exploring, threatening or friendly.
If you enjoy the luxury of being able to determine this from a safe distance, stand very still and attempt to be calm. Don't scream at the dog and run, you could easily confuse the dog and escalate the situation very quickly. Be aware of where the dog is and keep looking in its general direction. Do NOT stare into the dog's eyes. This could be considered an aggressive challenge to a dog, which is surely what you are looking to avoid.
When the dog approaches, let the dog sniff you. In a low voice, tell the dog, "No! Go home!" Stay very still until the dog leaves. Back away slowly until it is out of sight.
If a dog does attack, try to remove your workout jacket or other item of clothing and give it to the dog. This may distract him or appease its curiosity. If you are knocked down or fall, curl into a ball and keep your hands over your ears and face. Try not to scream or roll around.
Of course, there are other methods when all else fails. Using the latest ultrasonic technology, there is an electronic Dog Repeller that produces a discomforting but not harmful, high frequency sound. It is audible to dogs but not to humans and can help stop the approach of unwanted dogs at up to 15 feet. It is one of the most humane and safe way to deter unfriendly dogs.
The ultrasonic dog repeller emits a frequency ranged from 20,000 Hz to 25,000 Hz interval, which is hardly audible by humans but can be heard by dogs or cats. The dog repeller may harmlessly deter the approach of a dog or cat when properly used. The device will project these ultrasonic waves as you continuously press the power button and directly point the dog repeller toward the approaching unfriendly dog. The ultrasonic waves emitted from the dog repeller will discomfort the dogs and make them get away. This dogchaser will help the user establish a safe zone between the user and the unfriendly dog.
As a last resort, EPA approved Mace™ Muzzle pepper spray provides safe, effective and humane protection against canine attack. Ideal protection for walkers, joggers, cyclists or delivery people.
