Sometimes dog owners feel it is not possible to train his puppy without hiring an expensive professional dog trainer. But the fact is that, it is always better to train a dog by its owners only rather than sending him off to be trained by someone else. Most of the owners might be intimidated at the thought of doing it themselves, but it is really easier than one might think.

For the owners, it is best to train his dog by himself as by this practice they both learn a lot about each other and that is definitely a great way to bond with. The owner and his dog, both learn to communicate and understand each other, and can develop a closed mental relationship based on trust and mutual respect, where a puppy and his owner seem to read each others minds appropriately.

Now following a right kind of dog training method is another consideration. So the best way to start with the training session is, learning mutually. In order to be successful the owners need to learn as much about his pet as possible. It is very essential to understand the basic and natural dog behavior. So, one must take the time and prepare himself accordingly. But it is better to say, training a dog is wonderful a family project where the other associate family members need to be equally supportive as the owner.

Though, one might fail to meet the expertise of a highly trained professional who can wonderfully train the puppy in less time. Or due to heavy work pressure one may not be able to give enough time to assume the entire responsibility himself. In this case going for a trained professional would no doubt be a better option.

But the owner must remember that, dogs actually love to learn; and they feel comfortable when get to understand his master. One should also remember that the dogs have actually descended from the animals that lived in packs and like their wolf ancestors; they used to have a pack mentality. For that reason, to a puppy, not only his owner but everyone else in the household is in his pack. So, the key to successful dog training is to set oneself up as the pack leader or alpha dog.

Some puppies used be more intelligent and learn quicker than others. One just needs to have a little patience and stick at the first command until the puppy gets it properly and then should add the second command and so on.

The owner must also need to stay cool throughout the training session and always train his puppy with love, affection, praise and instant reward or treat. The best way to train a puppy is through positive back up and reinforcement. When the puppy performs an act the way is been commanded, the owner should reinforce that behavior with pleasant rewards, such as verbal praise or treats, instantly.

Every dog has a minimum intelligence and can be trained, no matter how old or young it is. And an owner can certainly do it himself with the help of books and/or training videos. Although the task may not be that easy; but not impossible as well.
